A few days ago, I got news about Walgreens contract with Express Scripts' pharmacy was expired on December 31, 2011. These news said that for the past year, Walgreens has negotiated with Express Scripts for a new contract to continue as part of its pharmacy provider network, but those negotiations were unsuccessful. As a result, Walgreens is no longer part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network as of Jan. 1, 2012. This includes all Walgreens pharmacies nationwide and Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York City area.
The unsuccessful contract having an affect on the users of the Express Scripts program, such as a member of the military and use the U.S. military Tricare plan, they are no longer be able to use it at Walgreens. Attempting to lessen the burden and keep their customers, Walgreens providing a special discount on the annual membership for its Prescription Savings Club. A family can join the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens for only $10 per year which covers everyone in the immediate family. This includes your spouse, dependents 22 years of age and under and your pets. Individuals can join for only $5. By joining the club you will receive discounted prices and other perks.
You can stay informed on what Walgreens is doing to help their customers offset this inconvenience by following Walgreens on Facebook and Walgreens on Twitter.
