Spain is one of Europe’s top travel destinations, its long history, warm weather, cuisine and beaches make it an attractive destination for many. Having the most listed cities on UNESCO’s world heritage list than any other country just goes to show how special Spain is. However there are of course some destinations in Spain that are most popular for various different reasons. This article takes a look at some of the most popular Spanish locations for the family traveler.
Situated on the Andalusian coast of Spain, the historical city of Málaga makes a great destination for family holidays. Dotted along the coast you will find a range hotels and a large number of restaurants which reflect its popularity. The beach resorts provide a number of recreational activities that will keep your kids entertained while you relax on the beach or take a bike tour of the city. On top of the beaches, there are plenty of sightseeing opportunities such as the Castle of Gibralfaro, Alcazaba, Cathedral of Málaga and the San Juan Bautista Church.
Known by many as the liveliest holiday resort in Costa Dorada, Salou is a great destination with theme parks, beaches, the famous Port Aventura and a large number of cafes and restaurants on its doorstep to keep families entertained. Being another coastal resort, Salou also has access to the Mediterranean Ocean and fresh seafood and of course many recreational beach activities to participate in. For these reasons an estimated 2 million visitors travel to stay in Salou each year which means it is one of Spain’s better locations for a family holiday.
Situated in the Costa Blanca, Alicante also makes a great destination for a family vacation. With quaint towns within the nearby region there are plenty of opportunities for day trips and excursions. Towns and cities such as Benidorm, Calpe, Javea, Denia and Torrevieja provide holidaymakers to Alicante with lots of sightseeing opportunities outside of the city. However there are also a large number of holiday resorts that provide you with enough entertainment to keep you and your family occupied if you want to stay by the beach. Of course you wouldn’t be blamed for wanting to relax and stay by the beach, Alicante has a large number of beaches that look out over the Mediterranean Ocean on which you can enjoy the warm sunshine.
Overall there are many reasons to visit Spain and these are just a handful of locations that tend to be most popular for family travellers.
